5 Reasons Why Too Much Pepper In Food Is Overrated.

Have you noticed that most times, when pepper comes in contact with your skin (washing / blending), It leaves a burning sensation afterwards, how much more when it enters into your body.

Pepper contains capsaicin, which is an ingredient that causes the burning sensation when consumed. It is added as a special ingredients in pepper sprays and even used in ointiments (aboliki , Robb)to cause the pepperish effect.

This ingredients is beneficial to the body, such as pain relieving, weight loss and minerals /vitamins. But as the saying goes, too much of everything is not good.

Judging by taste, It doesn’t make your food more tasty, neither does it make it more nutritious, instead it covers up for the lack of it. There are various delicious foods that aren’t pepperish.

Don’t get me wrong, am not saying pepper should be totally avoided ,but it should be consumed moderately.

Here are a few of the reasons why;

Burning sensation in the mouth

Capsaicin present in pepper binds with pain receptors and causes an intense burning which is not pleasurable.

Kills Tastebuds

Tastebuds becomes weak as it becomes difficult to distinguish between flavours such as sweet or salty or bitter.

Stomach Disorder and Diarrhea

For people with irritable bowels, it causes abdominal pain, increases acid in the stomach and often results in painful diarrhea.

Cancer

Some researches have been discovered that capsaicin is found to be a risk factor for mouth and throat cancer in India.

Avoid when on Medication

It should not be taken with Aspirin, increases the risk of bleeding. Asthmatic patients using theophyline treatment should avoid excess pepper…

Moderation is key!!!

A healthy person enjoys all the benefits derived from pepper when consumed minimally and moderately.

NB: (Suya or pepper soup should be consumed often, not daily)
